A blend of industry, manufacturing, and working-class homes, Commerce City existed as a gradual transition between the Docks and the residential neighborhoods to the West. As time passed, many of Commerce City’s factories closed. The neighborhood at the end of the twentieth century was quite different from what it had been a hundred years before.
History of Commerce City
Little Italy is the northernmost section of Commerce City. Bordering the river, the ethnic neighborhood has the most character. The restaurants, quaint shops, and bars draw more business from north of the river than anything else in the neighborhood.
The Church of Santa Maria, an Italian basilica, has been the pride of Little Italy since it was built.
